Growing Workforces Through Learning and Development (GWLAD)

GWLAD has subsidies of between 50% & 70% available to support businesses or not-for-profit organisations in West Wales with the costs of the courses delivered by the Wales Institute for Work-based Learning.

Who we are

GWLAD is led by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Group and supported by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.

Our unique work-based provision is known as the Professional Practice Framework. This innovative framework allows individuals to gain a range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in ways which are highly relevant to the work-based learner and ultimately productive for the business.

What we do

GWLAD is a proactive, innovative, high-quality, project that has been designed to meet the intermediate and higher level workforce development needs of Neath Port Talbot, City and County of Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.

The GWLAD project will provide enterprises with practical, flexible and achievable on-going staff development.

The programme has been designed to develop specific courses for individual businesses to meet their particular development needs. It enables learners to claim university credit for prior experiential learning and to choose from an extensive range of established and new modules leading to qualifications in Professional Practice.

These modules can be undertaken on their own or can build towards an overall qualification, from a Certificate of Higher Education to a Master’s Degree.   All courses are developed with the view of the individual developing or implementing a process or procedure that leads to a positive change in the workplace.

To achieve these qualifications naturally requires the commitment of the enterprise and the individual, with the delivery of modules including lecture time at the place of work, tutor support, self-guided study and assessment.

We have modules which cover such topics as Leadership, Marketing, Coaching & Mentoring, Mindfulness in the Workplace, HR for Non-HR Professionals, Project Management, Managing Teams and Sustainability.  We will also develop new modules to meet demands in the regions, and we have an excellent track record of working in partnership with employers in order to achieve this.
