Summary

This course explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support the Digital Competence Framework (DCF) and Curriculum for Wales across primary Areas of Learning (AoLEs).
 
Participants will gain hands-on experience with AI tools, learn how to plan for appropriate progression linked to DCF statements, and embed AI in ways that develop the four purposes - helping learners become ambitious and capable (through problem-solving and creativity), enterprising and creative (by using AI for innovation), ethical and informed (through responsible AI use), and healthy and confident (by promoting digital wellbeing and resilience).
 
This course includes practical examples reflection and discussion opportunities and action plan creation for effective AI integration in school.

Teachers and leaders in primary settings, in state schools in Wales
 
What topics are covered?
 
What is AI and how can it be used safely and ethically in primary settings? aligned with school acceptable use policies.
 
Planning for appropriate progression in AI use, linking activities to DCF statements and progression steps across year groups.
 
Embedding AI in teaching and learning to support the four purposes, helping learners become ambitious, enterprising, ethical, and confident.
 
Applying AI tools practically across AoLEs, adapting examples to their own topics and themes.
 
Creating an actionable school-level plan for AI integration, ensuring consistency and impact.
 
Developing confidence in using AI tools effectively, enabling teachers to model positive, informed digital practices for learners.

6 hours remote learning
 
How will you learn?
 
This live online remote course will enable you to participate in discussion and activities with other participants, led by a STEM professional development leader.
 
Outcomes
 
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Understand what AI is and how it is used safely with primary aged children.
 
Discuss importance of acceptable use policies and consistency of approach to AI across school.
 
Explore ways to plan for progression and track coverage of DCF.
 
Hands on experience of AI tools to enhance AoLEs 1 - 6
 
Discuss and explore ways in which practitioners can apply to their own teaching and planning.
 
Reflect upon how AI will look in their school.
 
Create an action plan for AI implementation when going back to their settings.
