Summary

This course introduces ways that AI can be embedded into the Curriculum for Wales in the secondary phase. Addressing aspects of the Digital Competence Framework, you will explore effective use of AI in and out of the classroom in ways that are relevant to the DCF. You will be clear on the implications for students, what constitutes AI and its safe implementation.
 
Through practical activities, resources and discussion, you will develop confidence in making informed choices for AI tools in your professional practice, culmination in the completion of an action plan for embedding AI in your school.

Teachers and leaders in secondary settings, in state schools in Wales
 
What topics are covered?
 
What is meant by the term “Artificial Intelligence” and how it can be used safely and ethically in secondary school settings.
 
Planning for the use of AI in AoLE progression, linking to DCF statements and progression steps.
 
Understanding the fundamentals of AI and what to expect from it, including spotting flaws and pitfalls.
 
Considering aspects of the environmental, social and ethical impact of the use of AI.
 
Experiencing AI tools; enabling teachers to develop confidence in their use so that they can make informed choices about the use of AI in the classroom and impart effective digital practice to learners.
 
Creating an action plan for the development and use of AI in departments.

How will you learn?
 
This live online remote course will enable you to participate in discussion and activities with other participants, led by a STEM professional development leader.
 
Outcomes
 
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Understand what AI is and how it is used safely with secondary-aged children.
 
Discuss importance of acceptable use policies and consistency of approach to AI across school.
 
Explore ways to plan for progression and track coverage of DCF.
 
Hands on experience of AI tools to enhance AoLEs.
 
Create an action plan for AI implementation when going back to their settings.
