Anti-Slavery Wales Conference 2026 (in-person)

Modern Slavery is a global challenge, with tens of millions of people worldwide living in conditions of modern slavery, including forced labour and forced marriages.

And it is taking place here in Wales. In 2025, more than 500 potential victims of modern slavery were identified by First Responders.

The Anti-Slavery Wales Conference has become an important annual event which brings together partners and organisations to network and share learning and experiences in response to modern slavery. This year’s conference will take place on 15 October 2026.

Co-hosted by Welsh Government, the Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner and the University of South Wales, it will take place at the University’s Newport campus and simultaneously available online

The conference will provide an opportunity to hear from and network with frontline practitioners and experts, as well as hear from high-profile speakers including:

• Sioned Williams MS, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality
• Jane Mudd, Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner 
• Eleanor Lyons, Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner

You can choose to join the conference either online via Microsoft Teams or by attending in-person at the University of South Wales in Newport. There are limited in-person tickets available – and so you are encouraged to book early.

The conference will be of interest to a wide range of people and organisations across the Welsh public, private or third sectors. This year we are focusing attention on the role of technology in the exploitation of children, and on housing-related exploitation, and so we would encourage practitioners working in the housing and local government sectors to join us. We are also very keen to invite participation from those who have lived experience of exploitation.

By registering for this event, you agree that the personal data you submit as part of your registration can be used for the following purposes:

Lawful basis for processing

The Welsh Government will be the data controller for the personal data you provide to participate in this event. The information will be processed as part of our public task and the official authority vested in us to undertake the core role and functions of the Welsh Government.

What personal data we will collect and process

Personal data is defined under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) as ‘any information relating to an identifiable person who can be directly or indirectly identified by reference to an identifier’. 

To send you information about the event we will gather personal data including:

• ·       Name
• ·       E-mail address
• ·       Organisation name
• ·       Language preference (Welsh or English)

We may also gather ‘special category data’ to ensure any additional requirements are accommodated during the event. This information is optional, processed by consent and will be deleted after the event:

• ·     Accessibility requirements
• ·     Dietary requirements 

In the interests of networking during the event, your name, organisation name and job role may be shared with other registered attendees. If you would prefer us not to do this, please let us know by e-mailing fairwork@gov.wales.

During the event, we will collect feedback and your opinions on subject matters discussed. No personal information will be recorded for any verbal feedback or opinions you provide. We will use the Microsoft Teams chat function to collect digital feedback and opinions. You do not need to provide personal information to use Microsoft Teams, but if you choose to provide personal information to join our Microsoft Teams event session, this will be processed as part of our privacy policy and the terms of the Microsoft Teams privacy policy which can be accessed via Data collection summary for Teams.

We will use SmartSurvey to anonymously collect your feedback on the conference, but no personal data will be collected.

Who will have access to your data

The collected information will be accessible by relevant Welsh Government staff, the

Office of Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner and the University of South Wales.

How long your details are kept for

Your personal details will be retained on secure Welsh Government IT systems for up to 6 months after the event for the purposes of contacting you about future Modern Slavery events or with relevant Modern Slavery updates. At which point, your information will be deleted.

Your individual rights

Under data protection legislation, you have the right:

·   To be informed of the personal data Welsh Government holds about you and to access it

·   To require us to rectify inaccuracies in that data

·   To (in certain circumstances) object to or restrict processing

·   For (in certain circumstances) your data to be ‘erased’

·   To (in certain circumstances) data portability

·   To lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) who is our independent regulator for data protection.
