Improve the management of your Ornamental crops and the key pests and diseases that commonly affect them with the refresher of commonly occurring problems and how they are best prevented and controlled to optimise plant quality.
Optimising the use of cultural and biological controls has never been so important due to a declining armoury of chemical pesticides. The key to success is being aware of the pest and disease pressures that may impact upon the crops that you grow and implementing measures to prevent and limit the impacts of pests and disease. This session will cover the use of biological controls and bioprotectants which are the future of crop protection; whilst we aim to minimise the use of conventional pesticides there is still a need for them to control hotspots of pest activity or disease outbreaks.
Key Learning Objectives:
Understand how to limit the impacts of key pest and diseases affecting ornamental crops
Improve knowledge of the importance of cultural controls
Learn about key predatory insects that are commonly introduced for Bio control
Learn about integrating conventional pesticides into control programmes
Increase awareness of the need to manage irrigation differently for peat reduced / peat free growing media to optimise success.
