Horticulture Integrated Pest Management

This high-level workshop focusing on IPM in Ornamental crops equips growers with the practical skills and knowledge to implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) effectively. Supporting Sustainable Farming Scheme UA2 delivery, the course promotes climate resilience, boosts crop productivity, and fosters long-term ecological balance. Through evidence-based instruction and interactive, hands-on activities, participants will gain confidence in sustainable pest management and informed decision-making.

Topics to be covered

• Understanding IPM - What is IPM and why it matters for climate resilience, horticulture, and profitability
• Common misconceptions
• Biological controls, companion planting, and habitat creation
• Monitoring and early detection strategies
• Key pest life cycles and detection techniques
• Prevention and cultural controls – optimum conditions for the control agents being introduced, knowing when and how to act.
• Reducing reliance on chemical inputs – Biological and mechanical controls.
• Mapping and monitoring Plant Health including IPM template for SFS. Collecting data to map and gain an understanding of pressures and control successes year on year. (Benchmarking)

This event will count towards your SFS UA4 CPD hours.
