Winter pruning will cover formative, regulative & restorative pruning techniques as well as the latest science in maintenance, from the experts at Orchard Daughters / Merched y Berllan.

After a brief recap on the basic principles of orchard management, this session will be primarily field based and practical. We’ll look at tools & biosecurity and develop winter pruning skills on an existing farm orchard.

 

Learning objectives.  farmers and growers will learn how to:

·        Prune top fruit in the winter using formative, regulative & restorative pruning techniques   

·        Diversify their business with a new top fruit orchard

·        Better manage the orchard trees they already have

·        Extend an existing orchard

This practical winter session is ideal for those who attended the ‘Introduction to orchard design and management’ sessions.

 

Please note:

·        Please provide your own transport, there is parking at the site. We would encourage car sharing if possible.

·        Lunch will be provided.

·        We will be on a working farm, part of the day will take place indoors in a conference room, with most of the session outdoors in the Orchard. Please wear suitable footwear for the site and warm clothing.

·        Maximum 14 attendees – Farming Connect Registered Growers
