Efficient post-harvest hygiene and handling is crucial, not only as a food safety control measure but also for maintaining the quality of the harvested produce as well as reducing post-harvest losses.

Join Malcolm Laidlaw as he guides you through the options, of what can be done with your produce to make it ‘retail ready’, with best practice methods that help you choose the best processes for assuring your produce is safe and maintains its good quality.

In this introduction to post-harvest handling and hygiene of fresh produce, Malcolm will cover:

·                 Best practice post-harvest scenarios: Field packed, packed in a shed, washing

·                 Awareness of hazards associated with post-harvest handling.

·                 Allergen awareness

·                 Basic principles of "packhouse design" and hygiene requirements

·                 Washing requirements for removing soil and ready-to-eat produce.

·                 Packaging formats and requirements.
