The 2024 growing season was a year of low crop yields, however, financial returns were often high, due to good numbers of people attending pumpkin patches (helped by breaks in the weather) and the public having enthusiasm for the crop.
Establishment was difficult in the traditional sowing and planting period of last season, for future years with the changing climate, looking at soil temperature will be key.
The session will cover regenerative farming practices including soil management and weed control to help establish a healthy, high-yielding crop for 2025. Alongside harvesting and marketing tips.
Learning Objectives:
• Season 2024 review
• How to achieve establishment in the cold spring
• Weed control and regenerative practices to consider
• Explore Pumpkin types and varieties.
• Crop prediction, Harvesting and mitigating Pumpkin rots
