Investment Readiness: Finance and Funding

This webinar will support New Innovation and Growth Start-ups to better understand the key differences between debt and equity finance, including examples of common funding routes such as traditional bank lending, Development Bank of Wales funding, British Business Bank Start Up Loans, venture capital, angel investment and equity crowdfunding. The session will outline the general advantages, disadvantages and considerations associated with each option, including potential implications for shareholding and business ownership. It will also provide an overview of SEIS, including how it may benefit a business, eligibility considerations, how to register, and when businesses may wish to start thinking about it. The webinar will remain impartial and informative throughout. Attendees will be encouraged to consider their own circumstances, seek appropriate professional advice where required, and make their own informed decisions about which finance or funding option may be most suitable for their business. It will not recommend one funding route over another or provide individual financial advice.

Presenter bio - 

Jason MacVicar, Head of Client Services at Elevate, has a decade of experience working with SMEs across a wide range of industries, business structures, business life stages and ownership structures – from individuals operating as sole traders taking their first steps after employment, to mature & established limited companies, to groups of companies owned by overseas entities with stock market-led reporting requirements.Jason and the Elevate team have supported businesses through financial difficulties, reaching out to funders in order to ensure stability of cash flow; navigating business growing pains by analysing margins and spotting underutilised assets; and negotiating eventual business exits, including by management buy-out, transfer to the younger generation or external sales to third parties (both competitors and venture capitalists).
