Our Farms Farm Walks - September 2024 - Cwmcowddu

As part of a unique series of 15 farm walks, Sian, Aled and Rhodri Davies welcome you to the Farming Connect Our Farms Network open day at Cwmcowddu, to see and hear more about the on-farm trials they are undertaking as part of the network.

During the farm walk, expert speakers will demonstrate and discuss the on-farm trials on-going at Cwmcowddu and the following topics will be covered:

  • Dairy Herd Feed Efficiency with Geraint Jones Mabis Amaeth
  • Making best use of poultry manure on grassland with Duncan Rose
  • Herbal Ley Project with Monty White
  • Benefits of Woodland and shelter on livestock farms with Geraint Jones Farming Connect
  • Red Clover/Silage overseeding/reseeding with James Holloway

About Cwmcowddu:

Located in Llangadog, Cwmcowddu is a 218-ha farm.

It is a mixed farm enterprise made up of an all year round-calving dairy herd of 120 in number, a flock of 500 cross bred ewes and a 32,000 layers unit. As part of the Our Farms Network, Cwmcowddu are focusing on:

  • Better use of chicken manure to reduce the fertiliser that is bought in
  • Improve the nutrition and fertility of the dairy herd
  • Increase forage and to make it more ‘tolerant’ to drought

There will also be an opportunity to catch-up with industry stakeholders and see demonstrations of various technologies related to the project work on various stalls.Refreshments will be provided following the farm walk.

Booking is not essential but encouraged for catering purposes.
