Our Farms Farm Walks - September 2024 - Lower House Farm

As part of a unique series of 15 farm walks, Robert Lyon and family welcome you to the Farming Connect Our Farms Network open day at Lower House Farm, to see and hear more about the on-farm trials they are undertaking as part of the network.

During the farm walk, expert speakers will demonstrate and discuss the on-farm trials on-going at Lower House Farm and the following topics will be covered:

  • Feeding crimped peas and beans to lambing ewes with Kate Phillips
  • Integrating poultry manure into a grassland farm with Duncan Rose
  • Fluke project with Gwen Rees/Rhys Jones
  • Pollinators with Lynfa Davies

Located in Radnorshire, Lower House Farm is a mixed farm enterprise consisting of a flock of 600 ewes and a 32,000 poultry layers unit in addition to finishing 130 to 150 Belgian Blue x heifers annually.

As part of the Our Farms Network, Lower House Farm are focusing on:

  • Reducing input costs
  • Growing protein crops to reduce the need to buy in protein and reduce the carbon footprint of the farm
  • Making best use of chicken manure as a fertiliser

There will also be an opportunity to catch-up with industry stakeholders and see demonstrations of various technologies related to the project work on various stalls.

Refreshments will be provided following the farm walk.

Booking is not essential but encouraged for catering purposes.
