Using digital tools across the primary curriculum - WD015

Overview

Cost: Free

Summary

This course addresses the mandatory Digital Competence Framework (DCF) as a cross-curricular responsibility under the Curriculum for Wales. It targets the critical transition from "troubleshooting" basic ICT issues to implementing "transformational pedagogy." By empowering teachers to move beyond tokenistic technology use, the course ensures that digital tools are integrated as pedagogical drivers that enhance specific Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs). The goal is to foster "purposeful integration" where learners move from using given resources to strategically "choosing and selecting the right tool for the task."

Who is it for?

Teachers and leaders in primary settings, in state schools in Wales

What topics are covered?

  • Why do we use digital tools in the classroom? Benefits and limitations, as well as learning when not to use digital tools.
  • Identifying barriers (confidence, capacity, infrastructure)
  • Applying digital tools practically across AoLEs, adapting examples to own topics and themes.
  • Mapping deployment of digital tools to the DCF
  • Creating an actionable school-level plan for digital tool integration, ensuring consistency and impact.
  • Developing confidence in using digital tools effectively, enabling teachers to model positive, informed digital practices for learners.
