As part of Farming Connect's annual series of 22 on-farm events, Caryl Hughes who farms in partnership with her family welcomes you to the Farming Connect Our Farms Network open day at Tuhwntir Afon, to see and hear more about the on-farm trials they are undertaking as part of the network.

During the farm visit, expert speakers will demonstrate and discuss the on-farm trials on-going at Tuhwntir Afon and the following topics will be covered:

  • Flock Management Technology: A Focus on EID & Weighing Solutions with Matt Blyth, BLAS
  • Trace element focus: Can bolusing tup lambs reduce finishing times? with Alana Jackson, Cain Farm Vets
  • Working out the real cost of iceberg diseases with Peers Davies, Prifysgol Lerpwl
  • Breeding efficient, resilient and profitable sheep through focusing on genetics with Gwydion Owen Cyswllt Ffermio

Located in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Caryl and family farm 364 ha with approximately 161 ha being upland and peatland. They run a flock of 1200 Welsh mountain sheep and 300 Welsh mule sheep. The farm holds 25 spring-calving Limousin cross herd.

There will also be an opportunity to catch-up with industry stakeholders and see demonstrations of various technologies related to the project work on various stalls.

Dinner will be provided following the farm walk.

Booking not essential but encouraged for catering purposes.
