Woore Farm Study Visit: Fruit Production and Farm tourism

Cost: Free

Whether you run an established PYO and are wanting to learn how you can extend your season/offering, or you are starting out on a new farm enterprise, this is a unique opportunity to visit a thriving farm tourism and PYO enterprise with a café and seasonal farm shop.

Chris Creed from ADAS will join us for the day and will discuss the importance of varietal selection (programmed June bearers, ever-bearers, F1 hybrid seed grown) for extending the season of soft fruit production. A range of soft and top fruit are grown using farm-designed equipment, including the re-use of second-hand tunnels to produce long-season PYO strawberries and raspberries.

We will also discuss how Woore Farm have integrated old and new orchards into their business model, developing value-added products from juicing and cider making. This will give an opportunity to discuss how growers can include value-added products into their own offering. Other topics unique to the farm to be covered, including recent engagement with the local water company to deliver investment in pollution-reducing technology and nutrient management plans. Finally, a demonstration of hand-assisted down-row weeding in pumpkins with a Hudson machine will finish off the day.
