Writing a successful grant application

Overview

Cost: Free

In this workshop Elizabeth Callard will share her expertise and walk attendees through the do's and don'ts of applying for grants.

Grants are a brilliant way to access much needed funds to develop and support your business however, the grant application process can be daunting and confusing. Elizabeth Callard is an independent Procurement and Tendering Consultant with a background in Public Sector Procurement and Supplier Development. She supports Public and Private sector organisations with their procurement activities, assists suppliers with completion of tenders and PQQs and pre-tender preparation. In this workshop Elizabeth will share her expertise and walk attendees through the do's and don'ts of applying for grants, giving practical, useful support to help improve your chances of being successful.

The overall aim of the workshop is to improve attendees’ understanding of the grant funding process and their chance of submitting a successful application. It will focus on:

· Identifying suitable funding opportunities

· Understanding the application process – to bid or not to bid

· Completing an application – tips and best practice

· Appealing an award decision

The workshop will be split into a morning and afternoon session with the first two bullets aimed at those new to the process being covered in the morning. Attendees can attend either the morning or afternoon but it is recommended that you attend the full day to get greater knowledge.

During the day Elizabeth will look to signpost to funding opportunities, encouraging you to make sure you find and understand the conditions which would apply if your application was successful and the claims procedure, monitoring and record-keeping processes with which you would have to comply. You will have a greater understanding of the application process and what will be required of you so that you can decide whether or not to invest resources in an application: eligibility, guidance and support, timescales, scoring criteria, award process etc.

In the afternoon we will cover the main reasons most bids fail and how to overcome this. Elizabeth will focus on improving your alignment with the funding programme's strategic aims through the identification of appropriate evidence which addresses each of the scoring criteria. Finally, she will briefly address the do's and don'ts about appealing a decision and getting feedback.
