Glwydcaenewydd Farm Walk: a focus on renewable energy, carbon sequestration and water quality at a catchment scale

Overview

Cost: Free

Join Farming Connect and farmer Keri Davies at Glwydcaenewydd, a beef and sheep farm near Brecon to hear about the collaborative projects that they have been involved in, focusing on renewable energy opportunities, enhancing carbon sequestration and maintaining good water quality within the Usk catchment.

During the event, local farmer and Head of Sustainability at Map of Ag, Hugh Martineau will discuss the results from an European Innovation Partnership (EIP) project focusing on assessing opportunities and challenges for carbon neutral farming, including the use of terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging (tLiDAR) technology to measure above ground woody volumes in broadleaved hedgerows.

Nigel Elgar, Welsh Water will be in attendance to discuss objectives from a project focusing on developing productive buffers.

A representative from the Wye and Usk Foundation will also be in attendance to discuss a Catchment Systems Thinking Cooperative (CaSTCo) project, specifically, the impact of cell grazing on early infiltration rates.

There will be an opportunity to hear more about the Usk Catchment Partnership from Brecon Beacons National Park, and the Beacon Water Group will share their experiences of developing practical, small-scale farm interventions that protect water quality and enhance business resilience.

To support our biosecurity standards and conform with the Welsh Government guidelines, please ensure that all vehicles are clean and that you wear boots and clothing that can be washed and disinfected. Anyone found to be wearing boots and clothing that cannot be washed and disinfected will be refused access to the farm.
